Don't Forget
Don’t forget
Don’t forget you’ve got a key
Yeah a cosmic key
Oh I love you so much
Don’t forget
We’re all blowing in
The interstellar wind
I’m your little galaxy
Don’t forget
Don’t forget sometimes
We all
We all think about dying
Don’t let it kill you
Don’t forget
I won’t forget the long drive
We arrived in time to say goodbye
And the way my roses shook
I won’t overlook
The willows bending by the graves
The very next day in the shade
Sweating in a new suit
I don’t regret
I don’t regret sometimes
We all
We all think about dying
Don’t let it kill you
Don’t forget
Don’t forget to brush your teeth
Or you’ll have a funny smile
You don’t have to smile at me
Don’t forget
Don’t forget sometimes
We all
We all think about dying
Don’t let it kill you
Don’t forget
Don’t forget sometimes
We all
We all think about dying
Oh
Having Been Is No Way To Be
Oh I was naive
My shoes were untied
In heaven everything is just fine
But the phones are dead
And so is the light
And so are you
And honey so am I
But the earth still turns
For the unconcerned
Days pass below like train windows
I was a sapling tree
The birds looked like me
So I begged my nerves to kick me something new
From time to time
I’d watch you sleep
I wonder how much freedom we can dream
And I’m sorry when you wake up to me
I just got tired
Shining steady like a spider web
Is an empty stage
Now people say
“What drugs did you take?”
And “Why don’t you start taking them again?”
What difference would it ever make to them
But they’re not my friends
And if I was dead
What difference would it ever make to them
If I got high
From time to time
I wonder how much freedom you would need
And I’d be sorry when you wake to me
I’m reaching out to you
I’m writing all the time
I don’t see deep but I see far and wide
I see dead trees
But the roots have leaves
Just because I can’t describe it doesn’t mean I shouldn’t try
To untwist the knife
To unmake my mind
Having been is no way to be alive
And I’m alive
When I watch you sleep
I wonder how much freedom we need
And I’m here
When you wake up to me
I’m still here
When you wake up to me
Sign of Life
I hover
Above
BUY IT NOW
Time is not enough
Time will tell
It’s not enough
But I wish you well
And I still love you
I tried
And I said please
I fell
To my knees
I am death
I am night
I’m everything you fear
Is not quite right
And you still love me
Right?
You’re too kind
I was wrong
There is no sign of life
Where I’m from
I grow out of my old clothes
Without anyone noticing
I waited until I was 17
To get born
But I still love you

Please Be Patient With Me
I should warn you
When I’m not well
I can’t tell
Oh, there’s nothing I can do
To make this easier for you
You’re gonna need to be patient with me
I’m this apple, this happening stone
When I’m alone
Oh, but my blessings get so blurred
At the sound of your words
I’m gonna need you to be patient with me
How can I warn you
When my tongue turns to dust
Like we’ve discussed
It doesn’t mean that I don’t care
It means I’m partially there
You’re gonna need to be patient with me

Passenger Side
Hey, wake up
Your eyes weren't open wide
For the last couple of miles
You've been swerving from side to side
You're gonna make me spill my beer
If you don't learn how to steer
Passenger side
Passenger side
I don't like riding
On the passenger side
Roll another number for the road
You're the only sober person I know
Won't you let me make you a deal
Just get behind the wheel

Passenger side
I don't like riding
On the passenger side
Should've been the driver
Could've been the one
I should've been your lover
But I hadn't seen
Can you take me to the store, and then the bank?
I've got five dollars we can put in the tank
I've got a court date coming this June
I'll be driving soon

Sunlight Ends
You’re not the kind of city street
Anyone can cross
You’re the kind of spinning star
That only gets you lost
You
Dance
Like the dust in the
Light
Where the sun comes in
And I’m
Following
‘Til the sunlight ends
You’re not the kind of mountain stream
Anyone can cross
You’re the kind of flashing sign
That only gets you lost
You
Dance
Like the dust in the
Light
Where the sun comes in
And I’m
Following
‘Til the sunlight ends
You’re not the kind of desert sand
Anyone can cross
You’re the kind of missing page
That only gets you lost
And you’re lost
And I’m lost
Love is for Love
Someone’s cell phone
Comes sailing down
The bones of the books
We never found
The lights on the ridge
Winding around
Shadows in their shadows
Drugs on drugs
Crawling on the ground
Love is for love
Scratching at the dead
Golden lawn
A leaning doe
And a shaking fawn
I called for you
Then they were gone
A planet without moons
A clock with no noons
Too late, too soon
Love is for love
I’m counting on
The spitting type
To follow through
All the night
The kind of dark
That shocks and bites
When the light goes on strike
I can't make it to the mic
Love is love
Like is like
Let’s celebrate
For another year
Hunt and kill
Another hollow fear
Ache for someone
Already here
Catching “I don’t care”
In the humming summer air
Love is love
And I’m not going anywhere

Ambulance
Once just by chance
I made a friend in an ambulance
I was half man half broken glass
She had a needle but I wasn’t afraid
I’d slap the cuffs right on my wrists
I’d get so high I’d arrest myself
For honeysuckle on a buckle
Broken teeth biting on my belt
High in a trance
My life smeared right past
In a blue light
I thought she was dancing
But she was just holding my cold hand
Cause everything can shine
Even the devil sometimes
And while I was busy dying
My lord she made some other plan
Traveling salesmen carrying trunks
You can smell them coming like skunks
In the distance, if your eyes can focus
That’s how God once spoke to us
Trying not to laugh
They pronounced me dead at half past
And that priest he pissed his pants
When he heard me start to say hello
Everything can shine
Even the devil sometimes
While I was busy dying
My lord she made some other plan

Remember the Mountain Bed
Do you still sing of the mountain bed we made of
limbs and leaves: Do you still sigh there near the
sky where the holly berry bleeds: You laughed as I
covered you over with leaves, face, breast, hips
and thighs, You smiled when I said the leaves
were just the color of your eyes.
Rosin smells and turpentine smells from
eucalyptus and pine Bitter tastes of twigs we
chewed where tangled woodvines twine Trees held
us in on all four sides so thick we could not see I
could not see any wrong in you, and you saw none
in me.
Your arm was brown against the ground, your
cheeks part of the sky, As your fingers played with
grassy moss, and limber you did lie: Your stomach
moved beneath your shirt and your knees were in
the air Your feet played games with mountain
roots as you lay thinking there.
Below us the trees grew clumps of trees, raised
families of trees, and they As proud as we tossed
their heads in the wind and flung good seeds
away: The sun was hot and the sun was bright
down in the valley below Where people starved
and hungry for life so empty come and go.
There in the shade and hid from the sun we freed
our minds and learned Our greatest reason for
being here, our bodies moved and burned There
on our mountain bed of leaves we learned life's
reason why The People laugh and love and dream,
they fight, they hate to die.
The smell of your hair I know is still there, if most
of our leaves are blown, Our words still ring in the
brush and the trees where singing seeds are sown
Your shape and form is dim, but plain, there on
our mountain bed I see my life was brightest
where you laughed and laid you head...
I learned the reason why man must work and how
to dream big dreams, To conquer time and space
and fight the rivers and the seas I stand here filled
with my emptiness now and look at city and land
And I know why farms and cities are built by hot,
warm, nervous hands.
I crossed many states just to stand here now, my
face all hot with tears, I crossed city, and valley,
desert, and stream, to bring my body here: My
history and future blaze bright in me and all my joy
and pain Go through my head on our mountain
bed where I smell your hair again.
All this day long I linger here and on in through
the night My greeds, desires, my cravings, hopes,
my dreams inside me fight: My loneliness healed,
my emptiness filled, I walk above all pain Back to
the breast of my woman and child to scatter my
seeds again.

You And I
You and I
We might be strangers
However close we get sometimes
It’s like we never met
But you and I
I think we can take it
All the good with the bad
Make something that no one else has but
You and I
You and I
Me and you
What can we do
When the words we use sometimes
Are misconstrued
I won’t guess
What’s coming next
I can’t ever tell
You’re the deepest well I’ve ever fallen into
Oh, I don’t want to know
Oh, I don’t want to know
Oh, I don’t need to know
Everything about you
Oh, I don’t want to know
And you don’t need to know
That much about me
You and I
We might be strangers
However close we get sometimes
It’s like we never met
But you and I
I think we can take it
All the good with the bad
Make something that no one else has
You and I
You and I
You and I
You and I
You and I
You and I
You and I
You and I
You and I
New Madrid
All my daydreams are disasters
She's the one I think I love
Rivers burn and then run backwards
For her, that's enough
They all come from New York City
And they woke me up at dawn
She walked with me to the fountain
And she held onto my arm
Come on, do what you did
Roll me under New Madrid
Shake my baby and please bring her back
'Cause death won't even be still
Caroms over the landfill
Buries us all in its broken back
There's a man of conviction
And although he's getting old
Mr. Browning has a prediction
And we've all been told
So come on back from New York City
Roll your trucks in at dawn
Walk with me to the fountain
And hold onto my arm
Come on, do what you did
Roll me under New Madrid
Shake my baby and please bring her back
'Cause death won't even be still
Caroms over the landfill
Buries us all in its broken back

Pecan Pie (Golden Smog cover)
As I walk along and stumble
Trains rumble in my head
As I breeze along and grumble
Think about you instead
And a piece of pecan pie
And you thats all I want
Just a piece of pecan pie
And all I want is you
Sometimes I get so hungry
Think about pie all day
Just a little whipped cream
Honey, Im on my way
With a piece of pecan pie
And you thats all I want
Just apiece of pecan pie
And all I want is you
Just a piece of pecan pie
And you thats all I want
Just apiece of pecan pie
And all I want is you
Now, dont you call me key lime
You are the apple of my eye
Dont you know Ill be fine
Whenever youre by my side
With a piece of pecan pie
And you thats all I want
Just a piece of pecan pie
And all I want is you
All I want is you
All I want is you
All I want is you
All I want is you

Dreamer in My Dreams
Well there's a dreamer in my dreams
Swinging from the beams
With light shining off the snow
Well there's a singer in my heart
Burning up my charts
With songs about things we all know
Well there's a blister on his brain
That's driving him insane
’Cause all good things they gotta go
Well there's a child on the way
It could be any day
But how his life will change
That we don't know
Well there's a child on the way
Gonna look just like him
One day, he's gonna say
"Ain't you my dad?"
Then he's gonna look down and smile
And after a while, he'll say,
"That's for sure, cause you got my eyes."
Well there's a dreamer in my dreams
He's hanging from the beams
With light shining off the snow
There's a blister on his brain
It's driving him insane
And all good things have to go
There's a dreamer in my dreams
Swinging from the beams
With a light shining off the lake
Well I know I've made mistakes
I'm passing them on
But I hope he gets up before dawn
There's a dreamer in my dreams
Climbing up the back
Of a car they used to call a Cadillac
It's got a brand new set of keys
It’s got a new look, it’s got a new look
And he’s gonna, he’s gonna take it all the way
There's a dreamer in my dreams,
Swinging from the beams
All jacked up in my garage
He's hanging from a belt
He don't know what he's done
Just don't forget to say goodbye when he's gone
Forever Never Ends
On the side of the road
In a tuxedo
Three below zero
In a red cummerbund
Highway 13
Not a king not a queen
I didn’t wanna come
To your stupid prom
A hissing road flare
Baby’s breath in her hair
In the middle of nowhere
In the middle of a nightmare
I had to call my dad
I knew he’d be mad
I’d never seen him not mad
Vomit in the frozen grass
Peppermint Schnapps
Well, here come the cops
They don’t even stop
Oh, there they go
Forever never ends
I’m always back there again and again and again
Forever never ends
I’m always back there again and again and again
Forever never ends
I’m always back there again and again and again
Forever never ends
I’m always back there again and again
On the side of the road
In a tuxedo
In the middle of nowhere
In the middle of a nightmare

Amar Bharati
The arm Amar Bharati
Lifted in the air
Is still there
In the air
Since 1973
It’s every day
It’s every day
It’s every day
It’s every day
It’s every day
The war Amar Bharati
Put in his right hand
He kept it there
In the air
Since 1973
It’s every day
It’s every day
It’s every day
It’s every day
It’s every day
It’s not a made-up story
Or hyperbole
It’s right there
In the air
Since 1973
It’s still there
It’s in the air
It’s still there
It’s in the air
It’s still there
It’s in the air
It’s still there
It’s in the air

Ain't It A Shame
My skin is smooth
My hair is blonde
And I am tan
On a blanket
With my friends
In the sand
Ain’t it a shame
When you wanna die
On a beach in the sun
Not a cloud in the sky
And that’s just not how dying’s done
Ain’t it a shame
When you’re young
I am welcome
I am loved
And I am free
But I have reached for something
I can’t keep
Ain’t it a shame
When you wanna die
On a beach in the sun
Not a cloud in the sky
And that’s just not how dying’s done
Ain’t it a shame
When you’re young
Ain’t it a shame
When you wanna die
On a beach in the sun
Not a cloud in the sky
And that’s just not how dying’s done
It’s not how dyin’s done
(Ain’t it a shame)
Ain’t it a shame
When you’re young

Evergreen
If I get back from wherever I travel
I'll tell you what I've seen
The good and the bad
The hearts and the hassle
In the cities under siege
I'll tell you all about where I have been
And I won't ever leave again
Now you might think it's a lie
When I say I'm going to write
But if I break my pen filling you in
Wouldn't that change your mind
Evergreen
Evergreen
Have you even seen anything?
Evergreen
Whenever I get back from
Wherever I go
I'll look for you in the shade
A marker in the grass
I'll tell you at last
You're not the reason I went away
Sometimes I wish you were the one
Who had left and I had stayed
Evergreen
Evergreen
Have you even seen anything?
Evergreen

Evergreen
Have you even seen anything?

Mirror
You are a mirror and the face
You are an object and the space
Your mind goes blind and you are erased
You will be the person taking your place
You are a cure and the pain
You are the desert and the rain
Your mind goes blind and you are erased
You will be the person taking your place
Light on an autumn day
Leaves falling
Tears falling on your grave
You are a mirror and a face
You and I are the same
Your mind goes blind
We are erased
You will be the person digging your grave
High on a summer’s day
Clouds drifting away
Turning grey

Throwaway Lines
I don’t want to write about
All the things I’m still working out
Terrible things you wouldn't believe
So I’ll just leave you with these
Throwaway lines
The best I can do
Throwaway lines like
“I love you”
I'm afraid you can see
What I really mean when I sing
In between
Throwaway lines
I don’t wanna let you down
I always want you around
But, man, my tongue gets so tied
And the hurt gets harder to hide
With throwaway lines
It’s the best I can do
Throwaway lines like
“I love you”
They don’t have to be true
Throwaway lines
An endless parade
Throwaway lines
Just taking up space
I’m afraid you can see
What I really mean
When I sing
In between
My throwaway lines
I’m afraid you can see
What I really mean
When I sing
In between
My throwaway lines

Enough
Has it ever been enough?
Has it ever been OK?
Have you ever felt full
At the end of a day?
Is your heart high?
Don’t lie
Is your heart higher
Than your mind?
Do you feel like you’re dyin’
Tracin’ a line
Out on your own
Like a complete unknown
Is your heart tired?
Don’t lie
Is your heart hidin’
From your fire?
It’s hard to stay in love
It’s hard to stay in love
It’s hard to stay in love
With everyone
Is there anything to say
That could change your day?
I don’t care about your thoughts
I just want everything you got
Is your heart still tryin’?
Is your heart still alive?
Is your heart still fightin’
To get out of your mind?
It’s hard to stay in love
It’s hard to stay in love
It’s hard to stay in love
With everyone
